(2015-02-21 Bonnie):

Dear friends:

This last trip to Taiwan was the fist time I had traveled alone in many years. I have to admit, it was pretty freeing!  But despite the day-to-day freedom to plan out my own itinerary based on my own timing, my mind kept wondering back to those at home -- a paralyzed mom who needs around-the-clock care, and a husband dealing with his own chronic health issues. I'm grateful to my brother and daughter who helped me take care of them while I was away so that I could come home and see them both doing well.

After getting all the "business" out of the way on my first day back, I was able to devote the rest of my time for friends and play. I had the chance to meet up with groups of friends ranging across my childhood to young adult. Every night was filled with old friends, laughter, food, wine, karaoke and night markets.

I was also honored to visit a former elementary school classmate, Cooper. Over the years, Cooper has become a successful businessman who has built an interesting company called Intelligent Inspection Control. If you're interested, you can check it out here: http://74.220.207.117/~iicccom/iicc/

I also spent a memorable day at a 19th century shipping port in northern Taiwan. To get there, we had to take a ferry across the river to a wharf called Dansui. There, we had an amazing seafood outdoor lunch in a romantic building, oversee 观音山 Buddha Mountain. Fort San Domingo, an important historical asset of Taiwan. The fort was built in 1628 by the Spanish, rebuilt by the Dutch and later served as the British consolation office. Oxford College, Missionary Hospital, Aletheia University, so many surprises I've never known these places were existing.

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave and impossible to forget. Thanks to all my friends that made my trip so memorable, and special gratitude goes to my colleagues who helped hold down the fort while I was away.

Love,
Bonnie

9-15-2011 Email from 郭明明:

I had a bunion surgery on my right foot six weeks ago, as a result that the joint has a little less motion compared to the other foot, I've seen my doctor yesterday, he advised for another 6-8 weeks for recuperation, therefore, I won't be able to make this year's re-union, but we will have a trip to China in March 2012, I would love to make a stop in Taipei if anyone wants to have a mini re-union at the time?

I look forward to hearing from everyone and to know more about your corner of the world!

Love and best wishes,
Bonnie Yang(郭明明)

9-15-2011 From Hoover Chen (陳着滬) :

Dear Bonnie,

Hope you get well from bunion surgery soon. It is a shame that you can't come back to Taipei this time when the weather should be super.

Please let me know when you plan to stop in Taipei ahead of time so there could be a mini reunion. My own plan is yet uncertain after Dec 2011.
I might NOT be in Taipei as I am now.

Best Regards

Hoover Chen

9-16-2011 Email from  Bonnie Yang (郭明明):

Dear classmates:

I'm going to miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reminisce with my classmates from 50 years, reading through the entries in the new created website, so many of you have lived such interesting lives and given so much, I was touched by the bits of advice several of you offered, I thought no one will ever remember that little girl was always the last on teacher's favorite list. But situation has changed! now I'm always the favorite one on my friends list!!

I'd like to share this poem with you, it's called "Reunion" and seems like a fitting end to this weekend:

This perfect time
stands still,
is present like a crystal,
burning - the years,
like birds,
flock together...
years with feathers flying,
so light
that joy leaps,
quick as love,
or rabbit's pulse
in the snow.

Have a great weekend

Bonnie (郭明明)
